According to Pakistan ISI
 * Put aside your political sympathy, hatred and support for a while and read this incident:
October 12, 1999 is the day when Pakistan's Army Chief and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pervez Musharraf, is returning to Karachi from his official visit to Sri Lanka on PIA commercial flight 777.  Major General Tariq Majeed and Brigadier Nadeem Taj were also on board.  There were also passengers on board, including government officials.

The plane is still in the air when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif abruptly announces the removal of Pervez Musharraf from his post and the appointment of DG ISI General Zaldin Butt as Army Chief.  Immediately after the announcement, the government issued instructions to civil aviation not to allow Musharraf's plane to land at Karachi airport.

Musharraf, sitting inside the plane flying in the air, has no idea what is happening on the ground below, then suddenly the pilot tells the passengers that the government is not allowing the plane to land at Karachi airport.

All passengers, including Musharraf, are shocked.  The pilot thinks that maybe the guy in the control tower is joking, he calls again for landing and he gets to hear the refusal again.

During this time, the plane rotates in the air for thirty minutes, the fuel level in the plane has started to decrease, the passengers have started reciting the Kalima Tayyaba aloud.  Musharraf gets up and goes to the cockpit and contacts the control tower himself and says that he is the army chief, why the plane is not being allowed to land?

Further the answer is that the government has ordered that your ship will not be allowed to land in Pakistan.

Musharraf says that not only he but also one and a half hundred other passengers are on board the plane, the plane is running low on fuel, their lives are in danger.  ۔  ۔

There is silence for a while, then a few minutes later the control tower responds that the government has spoken, you turn the plane towards India and land in the Indian state of Gujarat or Ahmedabad.  It may be recalled that just a year ago, Musharraf had inflicted heavy losses on India through Kargil and now the government of Pakistan was telling its army chief that his plane could not land in Pakistan, but should land in the Indian state of Gujarat.  ۔  At that time, Modi was probably the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Musharraf came to hear this.  He asked the pilot to divert the plane to Nawabshah Airport instead of Karachi and try to land there.  The pilot did so, but even there the government refused.

Passengers on board were beginning to see their deaths clearly, as there were only fifty minutes of fuel left on board.  At Musharraf's request, the plane was diverted back to Karachi.  At the direction of the government, the runway lights were completely turned off so that the plane could not land.  ۔  ۔  Seeing this, the pilot looked at Musharraf in frustration and asked what could happen now.

Musharraf spoke to the control tower for the last time and said that he should either talk to the military police or inform them of the situation.

Meanwhile, news had reached the army leadership that Lieutenant General Muzaffar Usmani immediately seized control of Karachi airport and landed Musharraf's plane safely.

At the same time, the military police cordoned off Zia-ud-Din Butt's house to prevent a change of command.  Musharraf got out of the plane, escorted the passengers safely to the lounge and, standing there, declared an emergency and fired the pro-government.

This is exactly what happened on the websites of all the world's newspapers, including Wikipedia.  If you have put aside your hatred, tell me in your faith that the refusal of the country's army chief to land the plane was not a betrayal.

Wasn't the act of endangering the lives of one and a half hundred passengers tantamount to murder?

Wasn't it a serious betrayal for the Pakistani military leadership to force the plane to land on Indian soil?

And yes, Musharraf's takeover was given a three-year reprieve by then-Chief Justice Saeedul Zaman Siddiqui.  Nawaz Sharif had also fielded Saeed Alzaman Siddiqui as his presidential candidate against Zardari.

Later, Chief Justice Irshad Hassan had also declared Musharraf's takeover and constitution unconstitutional.  At the same time, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was also among the judges who ratified it.

When we say that if punishment is to be given then it should be given to all, then these are the events behind it.  ۔  ۔  Musharraf's guilt was less, Nawaz Sharif, who instigated it, gave unconstitutional orders, was the real traitor.

Hang Musharraf on D-Chowk with gusto but then manage to hang your entire judiciary and civilian leadership at the same time.
