BRT Project Propaganda and Reality

BRT Project Propaganda and Reality

Peshawar BRT is probably the only project against which the opponents had started intense propaganda even before the first brick was laid, which continued even during the construction.
This project has been completed "ahead of schedule".  Opponents are brazen that their propaganda is still going on, which is confusing even the PTI supporters themselves.

 Propaganda No. 1
BRT's feasibility, design, technical assessment was not made.  From scratch, without any planning or preparation work started.

 Reality ....
This is probably the only "road project" in Pakistan that has undergone a complete technical evaluation, design and environmental assessment in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) (Project Nos. 003-48289 and 001-48289).  Regular review reports were issued.

 Propaganda No. 2
The cost of BRT has doubled, tripled, quadrupled.  It has become the most expensive project in Pakistan.

 Reality ....
The cost for BRT in 2017 was 70 570 million according to ADB papers (Project 002-48289) (60 60 billion at ڈالر 104).
At today's dollar rate of 170, it is about 100 billion.  This means that there was no significant difference in the cost of BRT.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the construction budget of other metro projects does not include the cost of buses.  Nor were parking plazas or other construction part of the Coast Metro budget.  The BRT project budget includes not only the cost of buses but also the cost of parking plazas.  Hundreds of shops have also been built in the parking plaza.

 Propaganda No. 3
Completion of BRT was delayed.  The project has been under construction for years, when will it be completed?

 Reality ...
The deadline for completion of the BRT project is June 30, 2021, according to the September 2017 agreement with ADB.  The project was completed in June-July 2020, one year before the deadline set in the project papers.

 Propaganda No. 4
 BRT destroyed Peshawar.

 Reality
The BRT project is not just a "jungle bus".
Instead, the entire GT road from one end of Peshawar (motorway interchange) to the other end (factory) was rebuilt.
Many underpasses / overhead bridges were built along this route.  Trouble is inevitable in the construction of megaprojects.

 Propaganda No. 5
Khan used to say that roads do not make a nation, then why BRT?

 Reality ....
Khan used to say that "only" roads do not make a nation.  Along with the road, education, health, justice and accountability system should also be improved.
To date, Khan has not sought a vote on BRT.

 Propaganda No. 6
There is no transparency in the BRT project.

 Reality ...
BRT is probably the only road project whose every document is available on the ADB website.
From technical / environmental assessment to bidding and financial details.  All online.
Can any paper of Lahore / Pindi / Multan Metro be found?  On the contrary, all its records have been burnt in the fire of LDA.  Thank you Shahbaz Sharif
Construction of Peshawar BRT started on October 25, 2017.
Exactly 2 years and 8 months later, BRT was completed in June-July 2020 (the year before the June 2021 deadline).
The Lahore Orange Train started in 2014, the Karachi Green Line in February 2016 and the Karachi Orange Line in June 2016.  Has anyone ever asked the Sindh government when the Orange Line project will be completed?

BRT is the biggest project of all in terms of its scope.  The only project that will cover its own expenses and will not put a burden of billions of rupees on the national exchequer like Metro.
Its construction started after the above projects and thankfully it is now fully operational.  Buses have been tested, ZU cards are being distributed.  The KP government has also sent a free ZU card to Bilawal Zardari.  Inshallah, the official inauguration date of this project will be announced in a few days.
